Anti-Dog Legislation

Magic Valley Kennel Club strongly supports any reasonable and enforceable laws that protect the welfare and health of purebred dogs and do not restrict the rights of breeders and owners who take their responsibilities seriously.

We recommend NOT donating money to the following organizations:

· Doris Day Animal League (DDAL)

· People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)

· Humane Society of the United States (HSUS)

These organizations lobby fiercely to take away the rights of responsible breeders by advocating mandatory spay and neuter legislation and other draconian measures.  If they would instead use their money to subsidize spay/neuter clinics, the problem with pet overpopulation would be greatly reduced.

What is BSL?

Bred Specific Legislation (BSL) is a law that prohibits a certain breed of dog or dogs that resemble that breed.   BSL comes in many forms, from extra insurance policies and special licenses, to outright bans of particular breeds. It usually comes about after a critical or fatal dog attack. It generally targets a small set of dog breeds. It attempts to curb dog bites and dog attacks by implementing policies focused specifically on those breeds. And it is always a complete failure – technically and morally.

BSL does not stop dog attacks or bites.

Be a Responsible Owner

· Spay or neuter your pet.

· Observe leash laws.

· Do not allow your pet to run free.  Ever.

· If your female dog is in heat, keep her confined for 23 days to prevent unwanted puppies.

· Enroll your pet in obedience classes.
